S2 Rated Digital Safe installed in Harrow
(case study 03002)
A Compact S2 Safe for a Bedroom Wardrobe
Our customer in Harrow wanted a compact, insurance-rated digital safe that could be kept discreetly inside an existing bedroom wardrobe. After looking at the available space, we recommended the Bloomsbury 40K Size 2 Digital Safe. Its relatively low height, flush-fitting keypad and 31-litre internal capacity make it particularly well suited to fitted bedroom furniture.
The Bloomsbury 40K Size 2 is independently attack tested and certified to EN14450 S2, with recommended insurance ratings of £4,000 for cash and £40,000 for valuables. At 35.5kg it is compact enough for this sort of installation, while still being a properly constructed security safe rather than simply a lightweight storage box.
A Few Millimetres Made All the Difference
This installation turned out to be slightly more involved and required some carpentry. The safe needed to sit between the horizontal front panel of the wardrobe and the wall at the rear, but the existing skirting board meant the available depth was just a little too tight.
On paper, a few millimetres does not sound like much. Inside fitted furniture, however, it can be the difference between “fits nicely” and “not going in at all”. Our installer therefore carefully trimmed the section of skirting board behind the safe and also trimmed the horizontal wardrobe panel at the front to create the extra clearance required.
Once those two small alterations had been made, the safe slotted into the wardrobe exactly as intended, with the rear sitting further back towards the wall and enough clearance at the front for the installation to proceed properly.
Eight Fixing Points Used
With the safe now sitting correctly in the wardrobe, the fixing positions could be marked accurately. All four pre-drilled holes in the rear of the safe were used, with four heavy-duty cavity fixings securing it through the back and into the wall.
The four pre-drilled fixing holes in the base were then used as well. Four coach screws were fitted through the bottom of the safe and into the wooden wardrobe floor beneath.
Using all eight available fixing positions gave the safe a very effective installation within the furniture. Just as importantly, the earlier trimming work meant it was sitting where it was supposed to sit rather than being pushed forward unnecessarily by the skirting or wardrobe trim.
Neatly Fitted and Ready to Use
The finished installation made good use of a fairly tight wardrobe space and is a good example of why safe fitting is not always simply a matter of drilling a few holes. Small details in existing joinery can dictate whether a safe sits neatly or looks as though it has been squeezed into somewhere it does not quite belong.
The Bloomsbury 40K Size 2 provides 31 litres of internal storage and is supplied with one removable shelf. Its flush-fitting 10mm steel door and keypad help keep the overall depth tidy, which was especially useful on this particular job.
After the safe was installed, our installer showed the customer how to operate and programme the digital keypad. Once also shown how to use the emergency overide keys, the customer was then given their certificate of installation.

About Harrow, London HA2
Harrow is a large and varied part of north-west London, with neighbourhoods ranging from the historic settlement on Harrow on the Hill to the later suburban areas that developed around the railway and Underground network.
Harrow on the Hill is one of the borough's most distinctive historic areas. Its elevated position, old road pattern and concentration of listed buildings give it a character that is very different from the surrounding London suburbs.
The area has been settled since at least the Saxon period, while the establishment and later growth of Harrow School helped shape the development of the hilltop village and its surrounding streets.
The wider borough contains numerous conservation areas, reflecting the variety of historic villages, estates and nineteenth- and twentieth-century residential development found across Harrow.
Modern Harrow is well connected by both Underground and National Rail services, with routes providing links towards central London, Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire. The HA2 district includes residential areas around South Harrow, Rayners Lane and parts of Harrow on the Hill.
