S2 Rated Digital Safe installed in Surrey
(case study 03116)
A Larger Safe Without Giving Up the Bedroom
Our customer in Godalming wanted a larger digital safe with enough room for jewellery boxes, watches, documents and other household valuables, but still wanted it hidden away rather than sitting out in the bedroom. After looking at the available space, we recommended the Bloomsbury 40K Size 5 Digital Safe and the bedroom wardrobe as the most practical installation position.
The Size 5 is the largest model in the Bloomsbury 40K range and provides 85 litres of internal storage with two removable shelves. It is independently attack tested and certified to EN14450 S2, with recommended insurance ratings of £4,000 for cash and £40,000 for valuables.
Four Rear Anchors into the Brick Wall
The wardrobe position gave us solid brickwork directly behind the safe, so the first stage was to use all four of the pre-drilled rear fixing holes.
Our installer positioned the safe carefully inside the wardrobe, marked all of the fixing points and then moved it away temporarily so the wall could be drilled accurately. The safe was then returned to position and secured through the rear with four heavy-duty expanding anchor bolts directly into the brick wall behind.
That gave the safe a strong structural fixing to the building rather than relying on the wardrobe itself.
Four Additional Coach Screws Through the Base
The Bloomsbury 40K Size 5 also has four pre-drilled fixing holes in its base, and on this installation we used those as well.
Four coach screws were fitted through the base of the safe and into the wooden wardrobe floor beneath. These complemented the four expanding anchors through the rear, giving eight fixing points in total across two different directions.
The finished safe sat neatly inside the wardrobe with the door and keypad easy to reach, while the generous 85-litre interior gave the customer considerably more usable storage than one of the smaller models in the range.
Digital Lock Demonstration and Handover
The Bloomsbury 40K Size 5 has a 6–10 digit personal user code, electronic locking, emergency override keys and an external battery power point in case the internal batteries ever become exhausted.
After the safe was installed, our installer showed the customer how to operate and programme the digital keypad so they were comfortable using the safe straight away.
The customer was then given their certificate of installation before our installer left. The result was a large-capacity S2 safe securely fixed inside the wardrobe and kept discreetly out of sight when the wardrobe doors were closed.

About Godalming, Surrey GU8
Godalming is a historic market town in south-west Surrey, set on the River Wey and surrounded by the landscape of the Surrey Hills. The town has ancient origins and is recorded in the Domesday Book, while its position between London and Portsmouth made it an important stopping point long before the arrival of the railway.
The woollen, knitting, leather and paper trades all played a part in Godalming's development, with the River Wey providing power for local mills. The railway arrived in 1849 and strengthened the town's links with Guildford, London and the surrounding Surrey communities.
One of Godalming's most recognisable landmarks is the Pepperpot, the former market house and town hall dating from 1814. The historic High Street and surrounding streets contain a large number of listed buildings, reflecting centuries of development within the town centre.
St Peter and St Paul's Church, now part of Godalming Minster, has origins dating back more than a thousand years. Close by are the Lammas Lands beside the River Wey and the Phillips Memorial, dedicated to Godalming-born Jack Phillips, the wireless operator aboard RMS Titanic.
Godalming remains well connected, with rail services towards London Waterloo and Portsmouth and convenient road access to the A3. Its combination of historic buildings, riverside landscape, established residential areas and proximity to the Surrey Hills gives the town a particularly distinctive character.
