A Larger Safe Tucked Away Under the Stairs
Our customer in Ingatestone wanted a larger digital safe with plenty of internal room for household valuables, but did not want it taking up space in one of the main rooms. The under-stairs cupboard was a good candidate, and after looking at the available space and fixing surfaces we recommended the Bloomsbury 40K Size 5 Digital Safe.
Under-stairs spaces are often ideal for safes, although they can occasionally involve a little more crouching and manoeuvring than the photographs suggest. In this case, the position gave us both a solid wall behind and a concrete floor beneath, so we could use all eight of the safe's fixing points.
Four Expanding Anchor Bolts Through the Rear
The Bloomsbury 40K Size 5 has four pre-drilled fixing holes in the rear, and all four were used for this installation.
Once the safe had been positioned and the fixing points marked, after moving the safe away from the work area our installer drilled the wall and floor to accept the heavy-duty expanding anchor bolts. The safe was then repositioned and the rear anchors were installed through the safe and directly into the wall.
Using all four rear fixing points meant the rear of the safe was directly fixed to the fabric of the building.
Four More Anchors into the Concrete Floor
The four base fixing holes were then used to secure the safe to the concrete floor below. Our installer fitted a further four expanding anchor bolts through the base.
That gave this installation eight structural fixing points in total: four through the rear into the wall and four through the base into concrete. The safe itself only requires rear or base fixing, but when a suitable wall and solid floor are both available there is little reason not to make use of both.
Once finished, the safe sat neatly within the under-stairs cupboard, making good use of a space.
Digital Lock Demonstration and Handover
The Bloomsbury 40K Size 5 weighs 72kg and provides 85 litres of usable internal space with two removable shelves. Its flush-fitting keypad and 10mm steel door also help keep the overall profile tidy, which is particularly useful in cupboard installations.
After the safe was installed, our installer showed the customer how to operate and programme the digital keypad, including the emergency override and external battery features should they ever be needed.
The customer was then given their certificate of installation before our installer left.

About Ingatestone, Essex CM4
Ingatestone is an historic Essex village situated between Brentwood and Chelmsford. Together with neighbouring Fryerning, it retains a distinctive village character despite its convenient road and rail links towards London and the wider county.
The name Ingatestone has Saxon origins and is associated with the unusual stones found around the High Street. From Saxon times much of the surrounding land belonged to Barking Abbey, before passing to Sir William Petre following the Dissolution of the Monasteries in the sixteenth century.
Sir William Petre built Ingatestone Hall, one of the area's best-known landmarks. The Tudor house remains closely associated with the Petre family and is particularly noted for its historic architecture and distinctive one-handed clock.
The village developed beside the historic Essex Great Road between London and Colchester, and its position made it an important coaching stop. At one time Ingatestone supported numerous inns serving travellers making the journey between London and East Anglia.
The railway arrived in 1843 and later helped Ingatestone develop as a popular residential location for commuters. Ingatestone railway station continues to provide direct services towards London Liverpool Street, Chelmsford and destinations further into Essex.
Ingatestone High Street was designated one of Essex's early conservation areas in 1969 and contains a number of listed buildings. The surrounding CM4 district includes Green Belt countryside, farmland, ancient hedgerows and neighbouring Fryerning, giving the area a strong rural character close to major transport routes.
