We recently traveled to Fleet, located in the GU51 area of Hampshire, to perform a specialized security installation for a local firearms owner. For this project, we supplied and fitted a Brattonsound Sentinel Plus SL5+ Gun Safe. Brattonsound is the industry standard for firearms security in the UK, and the Sentinel Plus range is specifically designed to exceed BS 7558/92 standards, which is the necessary requirement for police approval regarding firearm storage. The SL5+ model provides secure storage for up to five shotguns or rifles and includes an internal locking top compartment for ammunition and bolts.

As shown in the pictures, the safe was installed in the corner of a room on a carpeted floor. To achieve the most secure and professional finish possible, we meticulously trimmed the skirting board at the base of the wall. This allowed the safe to sit completely flush against the solid brickwork, eliminating any gaps that could be used as leverage points. A flush fit to the wall is a critical factor often requested by Firearms Officers during home inspections to ensure the unit is as difficult as possible to pry away.

For the physical anchoring, we used four high-strength expanding bolts to fix the safe directly into the wall through the rear of the unit. This heavy-duty professional safe bolt-down ensures that the safe is a permanent part of the building's structure. In addition to the wall fixings, we secured 2 heavy duty screws through the base of the unit through the carpet and into the floorboards. This multi-point anchoring strategy provides the maximum level of resistance against unauthorized removal, giving the owner total peace of mind that their firearms are stored legally and securely.

The installation was completed with a full demonstration of the high-security double-bitted key system, which features a 7-lever locking mechanism for superior protection. We also highlighted the operation of the internal ammunition locker. Fleet is a flourishing town in the Hart District of Hampshire, centered within the GU51 postcode. It is situated approximately 36 miles southwest of London and 10 miles west of Aldershot. The town is a quintessential commuter favorite, largely due to its superb transport links. Fleet railway station sits on the South Western Main Line, offering direct and frequent services to London Waterloo in roughly 40 to 45 minutes. For motorists, the town is perfectly positioned alongside Junction 4a of the M3 motorway, providing a swift connection to the M25, Heathrow Airport, and the South Coast. Despite its high connectivity, the town maintains a distinctively suburban feel, bordered by extensive heathland and nature reserves that separate it from the nearby urban centers of Farnborough and Basingstoke. The name Fleet is thought to derive from the Norman-French word "La Flete," meaning a stream or shallow water—a direct reference to the Fleet Pond that has defined the geography of the area for centuries. For much of its history, Fleet was a small, sparsely populated settlement on the edge of a vast heath. Its significant growth only began in the mid-19th century with the arrival of the London and Southampton Railway. Interestingly, the town was not originally intended to be a major hub; the railway was built primarily to serve the military in Aldershot and the growing London middle class. As the railway made the area accessible, Victorians began to build grand villas near the pond, attracted by the healthy air and pine-scented landscape. Throughout the 20th century, Fleet evolved into a modern residential town, consistently topping national "quality of life" surveys due to its balance of economic prosperity and abundant green space. The focal point of the town’s natural beauty is Fleet Pond, the largest freshwater lake in Hampshire and a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest. The surrounding nature reserve offers diverse habitats including reedbeds, marshes, and woodland, providing a sanctuary for birdwatchers and walkers. For those seeking community and culture, Fleet High Street is a vibrant stretch of independent shops, traditional pubs, and a diverse array of restaurants that host the annual Fleet Food Festival. The Harlington serves as the town's primary arts and entertainment venue, offering a year-round program of live music, comedy, and theater. Just a short distance away, Calthorpe Park provides expansive green space for sports and family recreation. The town also benefits from its proximity to the Basingstoke Canal, where the towpath offers miles of scenic walking and cycling. For a touch of local quirkiness, the annual Fleet Lions Flower of Fleet Carnival remains one of the area's most beloved traditions, bringing the community together every summer.
