Burton Torino S2 Size 2E Digital Safe Installed in a Built-In Wardrobe in Berkhamsted

(case study 01382)

Why the Burton Torino S2 Size 2E Was Recommended

London & Home Counties Safes recently supplied and installed a Burton Torino S2 Size 2E Digital Safe for a homeowner in Berkhamsted, West Hertfordshire HP4. The customer required a compact S2-rated safe for jewellery, watches, cash, passports, important documents and other household valuables.

The Torino is independently tested and certified to EN 14450 S2 and is normally assigned a recommended insurance rating of £4,000 for cash or £40,000 for valuables. Customers should confirm the required security level, monetary rating and installation conditions with their own insurer before purchasing.

The Size 2E measures 277mm high, 403mm wide and 355mm deep externally. Its internal dimensions are 260mm high, 390mm wide and 295mm deep, providing 31 litres of storage capacity. The safe weighs 35.5kg and includes one removable shelf. Click any photograph to view a larger version.

Safe Installed Inside a Built-In Wardrobe

The customer did not want the safe to be too large and wanted it installed on the shelf above the chest of drawers inside a built-in wardrobe.

This position kept the safe discreetly located while allowing convenient access to the electronic keypad, emergency-key access point and safe door.

Compact 31-Litre Interior

The Size 2E provided the compact dimensions the customer required while still offering 31 litres of internal storage. The removable shelf divides the interior into two practical storage levels for jewellery boxes, watches, passports, cash and important documents.

Electronic Lock and Emergency Override Keys

The safe is operated using a battery-powered electronic lock with a user-changeable personal access code. This installed version was also supplied with emergency override keys, which provide a backup method of opening the lock.

Emergency override keys should be stored securely away from the safe rather than inside it.

Technomax, Burton Safes and the Bloomsbury Range

Interestingly this safe, although marketed by Burton Safes in the UK, is actually a safe made by Technomax in Italy. On our website you will find it as the Bloomsbury range.

Electronic Lock Setup and Customer Handover

Once the installation was complete, we demonstrated the electronic keypad and helped the customer programme their personal access code. We showed them the normal locking and unlocking procedure, how to change the code and how to replace the internal batteries.

We also demonstrated the emergency override keys and explained how to use the external battery-power facility if the internal batteries become depleted.

The packaging and tools were removed, the work area was cleaned and the user instructions were left with the customer.

About Berkhamsted, West Hertfordshire

Berkhamsted is a historic market town in West Hertfordshire within the HP4 postcode district. Its development was influenced by its position in the Bulbourne Valley and by historic routes connecting London with the Midlands.

Following the Norman Conquest, Berkhamsted became the location of an important castle. The original timber motte-and-bailey structure was later developed into a substantial royal stronghold whose surviving earthworks and ruins remain an important local landmark.

The canal linking Brentford and Berkhamsted opened during the late eighteenth century, with the later connection towards Birmingham increasing the importance of local waterborne trade. Castle Wharf became an important point for goods entering and leaving the town.
