Burton Eurovault Aver LFS Grade 1 Size 2 Digital Safe Installed in a Wall Recess in Watford
(case study 01543)
Why the Burton Eurovault Aver Grade 1 Size 2 Was Recommended
London & Home Counties Safes recently supplied and professionally installed a Burton Eurovault Aver LFS Grade 1 Size 2 Digital Safe for a homeowner in Watford, Hertfordshire WD19. Rather than using a wardrobe, cupboard or room corner, the property had a suitable architectural wall recess that could accommodate the safe.
The Eurovault Aver is independently tested and certified to EN 1143-1 Grade 1 and is normally assigned a recommended insurance rating of £10,000 for cash or £100,000 for valuables. It is also certified to EN 15659 LFS 30P, providing up to 30 minutes’ fire protection for paper documents.
Customers should confirm the required security grade, monetary rating and installation conditions with their own insurer before purchasing.
The Size 2 measures 460mm high, 440mm wide and 430mm deep externally, with approximately 40mm additional projection for the handle. Its internal dimensions are 382mm high, 364mm wide and 300mm deep, providing 42 litres of storage capacity. The safe weighs 119kg and includes one removable, non-adjustable shelf. Safe Positioned Inside an Architectural Wall Recess
The safe was positioned inside an existing architectural wall recess. This made effective use of the available space, kept the safe clear of the main floor area and placed the electronic lock at a convenient operating height.
The recessed position created a neat, integrated appearance while still allowing sufficient clearance for the safe door, handle and electronic keypad to operate normally.
The door can open through approximately 180 degrees, while the internal removable shelf provides practical storage for jewellery boxes, watches, cash, passports and important paper documents.
Manufacturer-Prepared Rear Fixing Hole and Masonry Anchor
For this installation, the safe manufacturer supplied the unit with a pre-drilled rear fixing hole prepared upon request. This allowed the safe to be secured directly through its rear while positioned inside the wall recess.
After positioning the safe, our installation team drilled into the structural masonry behind it. One high-strength expanding anchor bolt was then installed through the manufacturer-prepared rear fixing hole and into the masonry.
This single rear masonry anchor securely fixed the 119kg safe within the recess and helped resist it being pulled or levered from its installed position.
The safe also features three-point locking with 23mm-diameter locking bolts, combining its certified Grade 1 construction with the professionally installed rear masonry fixing.
Digital Lock Setup and Customer Handover
Once the physical installation was complete, we demonstrated the high-security electronic lock and helped the homeowner programme their personal six-digit access code.
We also demonstrated the normal locking and unlocking procedure, explained the audible low-battery warning and showed the customer how to replace the 9V keypad battery when required.
The completed installation provided the homeowner with a Grade 1 safe and LFS 30P paper-document fire protection, positioned neatly within the wall recess and securely anchored into the structural masonry behind it.

About Watford WD19 and South Oxhey
The WD19 postcode district covers areas to the south of Watford, including South Oxhey, Carpenders Park and Oxhey Hall. The district is within Hertfordshire and includes residential neighbourhoods, woodland and open spaces close to the boundary with Greater London.
Oxhey developed significantly after the arrival of the railway during the nineteenth century while retaining its own local identity. The wider area also includes evidence of earlier estates and settlement around Oxhey Hall and Oxhey Place.
Oxhey Chapel was built in 1612 for Sir John Altham as the private chapel of Oxhey Place. The historic building retains important seventeenth-century features and later restoration work.
Oxhey Woods and the surrounding landscape provide local walking routes, woodland and open green space. Carpenders Park railway station also connects the area with Watford and North-West London.
