A Compact Eurograde 3 Safe for a Study
For this installation in Stoke Mandeville, Buckinghamshire, the customer required a small size safe to install in their home study. After discussing and going through available options with the customer we recommended the De Raat DRS Prisma Grade 3 (Size 0) Digital Safe for a study.
Although compact in size, this is a substantial 112kg safe with recommended insurance ratings of £35,000 for cash and £350,000 for valuables. It also provides 30 minutes of certified fire protection for paper documents.
The chosen position allowed the safe to sit neatly against the wall while giving our installer access to both of its factory-prepared fixing points: one in the rear and one in the base.
Rear Fixing Directly into the Brick Wall
The first structural fixing was made through the single rear fixing hole in the safe and directly into the brick wall behind it.
After initially positioning the safe and marking the fixing points, our installer had to trim and remove part of the skirting board away from the wall. The reason for this was to make sure that the rear of the safe would be as close as possible to the wall behind, to avoid a possible leverage point for forced removal. He then drilled to the required depth into the brick wall, repositioned and aligned the safe and fitted an expanding anchor bolt through the rear fixing hole and into the masonry, securing the rear of the safe firmly against the wall.
A Second Fixing Through the Base into the Timber Floor
The safe's second fixing point is in the base. For this part of the installation, the fixing passed down through the carpet and into the wooden floor beneath.
A coach bolt was used through the base fixing hole to provide the second secure fixing, giving the safe an additional anchoring point at floor level.
With one fixing into the brick wall and one into the timber floor, both of the safe's available fixing points were used on this installation.
Installed, Demonstrated and Ready to Use
The finished De Raat DRS Prisma Grade 3 (Size 0) offers 12 litres of internal storage with one adjustable shelf. Its external dimensions are 370mm high, 410mm wide and 305mm deep, making it a compact option for customers requiring Eurograde III protection.
Once the rear and base fixings had been completed, our installer thoroughly cleaned the work area.
The customer was then shown how to operate the electronic keypad and use the safe correctly before being given their certificate of installation.

About Stoke Mandeville and Buckinghamshire HP22
Stoke Mandeville is a Buckinghamshire village immediately south of Aylesbury, with a long history reflected in archaeological finds dating from prehistoric, Roman and medieval periods. The parish retains a mixture of historic village character and later residential development.
The village is internationally known for its association with the development of the Paralympic movement. At Stoke Mandeville Hospital, neurologist Sir Ludwig Guttmann used sport as part of rehabilitation for people with spinal injuries, and the first Stoke Mandeville Games were held in 1948. Those competitions later developed into the modern Paralympic Games.
