A High-Capacity Safe for the Customer’s Study

London & Home Counties Safes supplied and professionally installed a Bloomsbury 40K Size 5 Digital Safe for a customer in Bourne End, Buckinghamshire SL8.

The customer required a larger electronic safe with generous internal storage, but wanted it positioned discreetly within an existing cupboard in the study.

As the largest model in the Bloomsbury 40K range, the Size 5 was suitable for storing a broader selection of jewellery boxes, watches, cash, documents and other household valuables.

Independently Certified to EN 14450 S2

The Bloomsbury 40K Size 5 is independently attack-tested and certified by ICIM to EN 14450 S2.

It has a recommended insurance rating of £4,000 for cash or £40,000 for valuables.

85 Litres of Internal Storage

The Size 5 measures 605mm high, 430mm wide and 400mm deep externally. Its internal dimensions are 590mm high, 420mm wide and 350mm deep.

The safe weighs 72kg and provides approximately 85 litres of internal capacity.

Two removable shelves divide the interior into three useful storage areas, making it easier to organise valuables of different sizes.

Positioned Inside the Study Cupboard

The safe was installed inside an existing cupboard in the customer’s study, keeping it outside the immediate line of sight while remaining accessible when required.

Before fixing the unit, its position was checked to provide suitable clearance for the safe door, handle and electronic keypad.

The skirting board at the rear of the cupboard was carefully trimmed so that the back of the safe could sit flush against the wall rather than being held forward by the timber.

Removing this gap reduced the space available behind the safe, making it more difficult to insert a crowbar or similar prying tool between the safe and the wall.

Flush Wall Position and Rear Expanding Anchors

Once the skirting board had been trimmed, the safe was positioned with its rear surface flush against the wall at the back of the study cupboard.

Four xxpanding anchor bolts were then installed through the safe’s rear fixing points and into the wall behind it.

The close wall position limited access behind the safe, while the expanding anchors provided the principal structural connection and helped resist the safe being pulled forward, tilted or prised away from the wall.

The Bloomsbury Size 5 is manufactured with four rear fixing holes and four base fixing holes. For this particular installation, the fixing strategy used expanding anchors into the rear wall.

Substantial Construction and Flush-Fitting Keypad

The safe combines a flush-fitting electronic keypad with a 10mm steel door, allowing it to sit neatly within cupboard furniture without an excessively projecting lock.

Its 72kg weight and structural wall anchoring created a much more substantial installation than would be provided by the safe’s weight alone.

Personal PIN Setup and Customer Handover

Once the installation was complete, the electronic lock was checked and the customer was shown how to operate the safe correctly.

We demonstrated how to programme a personal code of between six and ten digits and confirmed that the customer could open and secure the safe confidently.

The external battery power point was explained, and the customer was advised to store the emergency override keys securely away from the safe.

Final Checks and Installation Cleanup

The door movement, keypad operation and stability of the installed safe were checked before the handover was completed.

Packaging, drilling debris and installation materials were removed, leaving the study cupboard and surrounding area clean and ready for use.
