An S2 Rated Safe Fitted Neatly Inside a Bedroom Wardrobe
For this installation in Rochester, Kent, the customer was looking for a large size safe but wanted it hidden somewhere that would allow easy access. We suggested the Bloomsbury 40K Size 4 Digital Safe to suit the customer's requirements.
The Size 4 is the largest of the standard Bloomsbury 40K range and provides 70 litres of internal storage while retaining the flat-fronted design that works particularly well inside fitted furniture.
The safe is independently attack tested and certified to EN14450 S2, with our recommended insurance rating of £4,000 for cash or £40,000 for valuables.
Rear Fixing Through the Wardrobe and into Brickwork
The wardrobe position allowed the safe to be placed directly in front of a solid brick wall. Rather than relying on the wardrobe itself for the rear fixing, our installer drilled through the wardrobe rear panel and continued into the brickwork behind it.
Expanding anchor bolts were then used to secure the rear of the safe directly to the brick wall, giving the installation a structural fixing into the fabric of the building while keeping the safe neatly contained within the wardrobe.
The Bloomsbury 40K Size 4 has four 12.5mm fixing holes in the rear as well as four corresponding fixing holes in the base, giving our installer several fixing options depending on the construction of the chosen position.
Additional Joinery Fixing Through the Safe Base
In addition to the structural rear fixing, the safe was also joinery fixed through its base into the wardrobe beneath it using coach bolts.
This second method of fixing secured the safe to the wardrobe as well as to the brick wall behind. Joinery fixing refers to fastening the safe to the furniture or cabinetry, rather than directly to the structure of the building.
Using the rear and base fixing positions together gave the safe a very firm installation while preserving the clean appearance of the fitted bedroom wardrobe.
Final Checks and Customer Handover
The Bloomsbury 40K Size 4 measures 487mm high, 435mm wide and 405mm deep externally, weighs 61kg and provides 70 litres of internal capacity with one removable shelf.
Once the wall and joinery fixings had been completed, our installer cleared the installation area of tools and drill dust.
The customer was then shown how to use and programme the digital keypad, including the emergency override key function and was also advised of the best method to keep the emergrency keys safe before being given their certificate of installation.
