A Compact Eurograde 1 Key-Lock Safe That Tucks Neatly Into a Lounge Cupboard
We were called out to a property in Stanmore, right in the London Borough of Harrow, where our retail customer was looking for a proper Eurograde 1 certified safe — the kind that typically comes with a £10,000 cash and £100,000 valuables insurance rating. The catch? It had to sit out of sight inside an existing lounge cupboard.

Small Footprint, Decent 18-Litre Capacity
On the outside the VICTOR Grade 1 (Size 1) measures 400mm high by 400mm wide and 270mm deep, and it tips the scales at 39kg — solid enough, but still manageable to manoeuvre into position.
Open the door and you've got 350mm of height, 341mm width and 157mm depth to work with. That works out at roughly 18 litres of usable, secure storage.
Inside there's one adjustable shelf — you can move it up or down depending on whether you're storing passports and paperwork, or jewellery and smaller items — and it lifts out completely if you need the full height. The lock itself is a VdS Class 1 key lock, and every safe comes with three keys as standard.
Bolted Through the Back Into Brickwork, With an Extra Fix Into the Cupboard Base
We sat the safe inside the lounge cupboard first, making sure there was enough room for the door to swing fully open and — just as importantly — that you could actually get the key in and turn it without fighting the surrounding shelves. Like all the VICTOR range, this model comes pre-drilled with two fixing points: one in the back panel and one in the base.
The main fixing went straight through the rear hole and into the solid brick wall behind the cupboard. That's the important one — it anchors the safe to the actual structure of the building rather than just the furniture. For this we used a proper heavy-duty expanding anchor bolt that bites and spreads inside the brickwork once tightened.
We also used the base fixing point as a secondary fixing, running a large, strong screw down through the bottom of the safe and into the wooden cupboard floor. On its own it wouldn't be enough, but paired with the main wall fixing it adds another layer of resistance and helps hold everything rock-solid.
Final Checks, Handing Over the Keys, and an Installation Certificate
Before we tightened anything up for good, our fitter double-checked that the door opened freely and that the key turned smoothly — no catching on the cupboard frame or side panels at all.
This particular VICTOR is a Euro Grade 1 model with four-way locking bolts, extra protection on the hinge side, and that VdS Class 1 key lock I mentioned earlier — three keys supplied. It's straightforward mechanical locking, no batteries to worry about and no codes to forget.
Once the job was finished we cleared away all the tools, swept up any dust and took the packaging with us. Then we walked the customer through how the lock works, handed over all three keys, and left them with a signed installation certificate for their records.
