(case study 03426)
Finding a Eurograde 2 Safe for an Under Stair Cupboard
Our customer in Whitechapel, East London needed a certified Eurograde 2 keylocking safe with a recommended £17,500 cash and £175,000 valuables rating, but wanted it installed discreetly inside an under stair cupboard.
After discussing the available cupboard space, the required level of protection and the customer’s preference for a key operated safe, we recommended the KeySecure VICTOR Grade 2 (Size 2) Keylocking Safe. Its 60-litre capacity, adjustable shelf and substantial 145kg weight made it a practical Eurograde safe for the proposed location.
Once the installation position had been agreed, we arranged delivery and professional installation at the customer’s property in Whitechapel.
60 Litres of Organised Storage
The KeySecure VICTOR Grade 2 (Size 2) measures 550mm high, 550mm wide and 465mm deep externally and weighs 145kg.
Internally, it measures 450mm high, 440mm wide and 305mm deep, providing approximately 60 litres of secure storage space.
One adjustable shelf allows the interior to be arranged around documents, jewellery boxes and other valuables, while also being removable if you want the full space inside the safe.
Rear-Bolted to Brickwork with Additional Base Fixing
The safe was positioned inside the under stair cupboard with suitable clearance for the safe door and key access. As with all KeySecure VICTOR safes, this model has two pre-drilled fixing holes: one in the rear and one in the base.
An expanding anchor bolt was installed through the rear fixing hole and into the brick wall behind the safe, providing the principal structural fixing that secured the safe to the fabric of the building.
The safe was also screwed through its base fixing hole into the cupboard flooring, providing an additional supporting fixing at floor level. After completing the installation, our installer cleared the tools and any mess before showing the customer how to use the key lock and explaining where to keep the keys safely stored. They were also given a certificate of installation.

About Whitechapel and East London E1
Whitechapel is a well-known part of East London within the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. The E1 area contains a varied mixture of period terraces, converted buildings, flats and newer developments, so access routes and suitable safe installation positions can differ significantly from one property to another.
Under stair cupboards can provide a practical and discreet location for a safe, particularly where there is enough room for the cabinet itself and sufficient operating clearance for the door and lock. The chosen position also needs access to a suitable structural fixing surface, rather than relying solely on the cupboard joinery.
Whitechapel station provides connections via the Elizabeth line, London Overground and London Underground, helping to make the area one of the best-connected parts of East London. The surrounding area is also served by major roads and local bus routes.
Safe deliveries in Whitechapel can involve controlled-access buildings, communal entrances, narrow hallways, staircases and limited loading space. Confirming the complete delivery route and final installation position before delivery helps reduce the risk of access or clearance problems.
Where a safe is fitted into an under stair cupboard, the principal anchor should secure it to a structural wall or another suitable part of the building wherever possible. A supporting fixing through the base into the floor can also be used where appropriate, but this does not replace the main structural anchor.
It is also important to ensure that the cupboard floor and the wall behind the safe are suitable for the intended installation method, particularly with a heavier Eurograde safe. Careful planning helps achieve a secure installation while preserving practical day-to-day access for the customer.
London & Home Counties Safes supplies and professionally installs Eurograde 1, Eurograde 2, Eurograde 3 and other certified safes throughout Whitechapel, E1 and East London. Each installation can be planned around the safe’s dimensions and weight, the property access route and the available structural fixing surfaces.
