A Eurograde 1 Keylocking Safe for Household Valuables

Our customer in Hemel Hempstead needed an insurance-rated safe for storing higher-value household items and wanted a straightforward keylocking model to go in the utility room next to their filing cabinet. After discussing the available space and the level of protection required, we recommended the De Raat DRS Prisma Grade 1 (Size 2) Keylocking Safe.

The utility room was ideal for this particular installation as it gave the customer convenient access to the safe while the tiled floor concealed a solid concrete base underneath, providing an excellent structural fixing point.

The De Raat Prisma Size 2 is certified to EN 1143-1 Grade 1 and carries recommended insurance ratings of £10,000 for cash and £100,000 for valuables.

Positioning the Safe on the Tiled Floor

Once the safe had been moved into the utility room, our installer positioned it carefully in the agreed location and checked the clearance around the door and key lock and made the markings before starting the fixing work.

The important feature of this position was what sat underneath the finished floor. Although the visible surface was tiled, the tiles had been laid over a concrete floor, allowing the safe to be anchored directly into a solid part of the building.

The fixing point was marked through the base of the safe so the hole could be drilled accurately through the floor tile and into the concrete beneath without disturbing more of the finished flooring than necessary.

Anchored Directly into the Concrete Floor

The fixing hole was drilled through the tile and deep into the concrete floor beneath. After the drilling dust had been removed, the safe was aligned over the fixing point and secured through its base using one heavy-duty expanding anchor bolt.

As the anchor was tightened it expanded inside the concrete, creating a strong structural fixing directly beneath the 74kg safe.

Finished, Cleaned and Ready to Use

The De Raat DRS Prisma Grade 1 Size 2 provides 66 litres of internal storage, one adjustable shelf and a double-bitted key lock supplied with two keys. Its external dimensions are 600mm high, 420mm wide and 445mm deep.

After the anchor had been fully tightened, our installer checked the safe was sitting correctly and operating smoothly, then cleaned the utility room and removed the drilling dust and installation debris.

The customer was shown how to operate the key lock and given guidance on keeping the spare key in a separate secure location. Before leaving, our installer gave the customer their certificate of installation.
