Why Two Sussex Grade 1 Safes Were Recommended

London & Home Counties Safes supplied and professionally installed two Sussex Grade 1 Size 2 Digital Safes for a customer in Chelsea, South West London SW3.

The customer required substantial protection for jewellery, watches, cash and other valuables while also wanting both safes positioned discreetly within the property’s existing fitted furniture.

Each Sussex safe is independently tested and certified to EN 1143-1 Grade 1. Each unit is normally assigned a recommended insurance rating of £10,000 for cash or £100,000 for valuables.

Because two separate Grade 1 safes were installed, the customer could potentially distribute valuables with a combined value of up to £200,000 across both units, subject to approval from their insurer.

The recommended £100,000 valuables rating applies individually to each safe. No single safe should contain valuables above its own recommended rating unless the customer’s insurer has expressly agreed otherwise.

Customers should confirm the required security grade, monetary rating, value distribution and installation conditions with their own insurer before purchasing.

Size, Weight and Internal Storage

Each Size 2 safe measures 410mm high, 415mm wide and 345mm deep externally, with approximately 45mm additional projection for the hinges. Its internal dimensions are 334mm high, 355mm wide and 225mm deep.

Each safe weighs 75kg and provides 27 litres of internal storage. One adjustable and removable shelf allows jewellery boxes, watches, cash and documents to be organised across two storage levels.

Together, the two safes weigh approximately 150kg before any valuables are added.

Two Separate Wardrobe Installations

The two safes were installed in separate fitted wardrobes, allowing the customer to divide their valuables between two discreet locations within the property.

The first safe was installed in a black wardrobe, while the second safe was installed in a grey wardrobe.

First Safe Installed in the Black Wardrobe

For the first installation, the rear panel of the black wardrobe was drilled to allow the principal structural fixing to reach the wall behind it.

One Rear Expanding Anchor into the Brick Wall

One high-strength expanding anchor was installed through the safe’s rear fixing hole, through the wardrobe’s rear panel and into the brick wall behind it.

Additional Base Fixing into the Wooden Shelf

The base of the first safe was also secured through its bottom fixing hole and into the wooden wardrobe shelf, providing additional support and stability alongside the principal rear-wall anchor.

Particular care was taken while drilling through the wardrobe panel and positioning the safe to avoid marking or scratching the fitted interior.

Second Safe Installed in the Grey Wardrobe

The second safe was installed inside the grey wardrobe using the same general fixing arrangement.

One expanding anchor was installed through the rear fixing point of the safe and into the wall behind the wardrobe.

The base of the second safe was additionally screwed into the wooden wardrobe floor.

For each installation, the expanding rear anchor provided the principal structural connection to the wall. The additional base fixing into the wooden wardrobe surface helped support and stabilise the safe.

The combined rear and base fixings helped resist each safe being pulled forward, lifted or removed from its installed position.

High-Security Electronic Locks

Both safes were fitted with high-security electronic locks, allowing the customer to control access using personal codes.

The locks support two user codes and include a time-delay facility, allowing each safe to be configured according to the customer’s security requirements.

The doors also incorporate fire seals which the product specification describes as offering approximately 30 minutes’ protection at 750°C. This should not be treated as independently certified document-fire protection unless the relevant test certification is available.

Electronic Lock Programming and Customer Handover

Once both installations had been completed, the electronic locks were tested and demonstrated to the customer.

We explained how to programme and manage the electronic access codes and discussed suitable day-to-day operating practices.

The tools, packaging and installation debris were removed, and both wardrobe areas were cleaned before the work was completed.
