Burton Safes Torino S2 Size 3E Digital Safe Fitted in Essex
(case study 01612)
We completed a high-quality residential safe installation in Waltham Abbey, located in the EN9 district of Essex. For this local homeowner, we supplied and fitted a Burton Safes Torino S2 (Size 3E) Digital Safe. This model is a premier choice for those seeking a balance between high-level protection and daily convenience. As an insurance-approved safe, it carries an EN 14450 S2 rating, certifying it to protect up to £4,000 in cash or £40,000 in valuables. The Size 3E is particularly popular for its spacious interior and striking red-lined shelving, which provides a soft surface for luxury watches and jewellery.
As shown in the pictures, the safe was positioned in a corner of a room, providing easy access while remaining neatly integrated into the space. Because this was a carpeted floor installation, we used a specialized multi-point anchoring technique to ensure the unit exceeded standard security expectations. For maximum stability and resistance against removal, we utilized four heavy-duty anchors through the pre-drilled fixing holes at the rear of the safe, securing it firmly into the solid wall behind.
To complement the rear wall anchoring, we also performed a professional safe bolt-down into the floor. This involved driving four additional screws through the base of the safe and into the floorboards beneath the carpet. This eight-point fixing method is a hallmark of a truly secure home security upgrade; it ensures that even on a carpeted surface, the safe remains a permanent, immovable fixture. This level of precision is exactly what insurance providers look for during a professional safe installation in Essex.
Once the physical fitting was finalized, we conducted a thorough clean-up and a comprehensive handover with the client. We demonstrated the operation of the digital electronic keypad and demonstrated how to program their unique access code. We also explained the function of the emergency override keys, ensuring they felt fully confident in managing their new security asset. Waltham Abbey is a historic market town in the Epping Forest district of Essex, situated approximately 15 miles north of central London. Falling within the EN9 postcode district, the town occupies a strategic position on the meridian line, nestled between the southern reaches of Epping Forest to the east and the River Lea to the west. It effectively serves as a gateway between the urban sprawl of Greater London and the rural Essex countryside. Accessibility is a major feature of the town, as it sits immediately north of the M25 motorway between junctions 25 and 26. While the town does not have its own railway station, it is served by the nearby Waltham Cross station, which provides frequent services to London Liverpool Street and Cambridge, and the Loughton and Chingford stations offer further links via the Underground and Overground. The history of Waltham Abbey is profoundly tied to its religious and royal connections, beginning with the legend of the Holy Cross. In the 11th century, a flint cross was reportedly discovered in Somerset and brought to Waltham, where it became a site of pilgrimage. This inspired King Harold Godwinson, the last Anglo-Saxon King of England, to rebuild the existing church on a grand scale. Following his death at the Battle of Hastings in 1066, tradition holds that his body was brought back to Waltham Abbey for burial, and a memorial stone in the churchyard still marks the purported site today. In the 12th century, the church was elevated to a wealthy Augustinian abbey by Henry II as part of his penance for the murder of Thomas Becket. It grew to become one of the most powerful monasteries in the country and famously holds the distinction of being the last abbey in England to be dissolved by King Henry VIII in 1540. Beyond its religious importance, the town played a critical role in Britain's industrial and military history as the home of the Royal Gunpowder Mills. Established in the 17th century, the mills became the premier site for the production of explosives for the British military for over 300 years, significantly influencing the town’s growth and local economy. The primary attraction for visitors is the Abbey Church of Waltham Holy Cross and St Lawrence, a stunning example of Norman architecture featuring a ceiling painted in the Victorian era that depicts the signs of the zodiac. Surrounding the church are the Abbey Gardens, which contain the ruins of the monastic buildings, the 14th-century gatehouse, and "Harold’s Bridge," an ancient stone crossing over the Cornmill Stream. For those interested in industrial heritage, the Royal Gunpowder Mills is a vast 170-acre site that offers exhibitions on the history of explosives, a secret "island" habitat for wildlife, and narrow-gauge railway tours. Outdoor enthusiasts are drawn to the Lee Valley White Water Centre, an Olympic legacy venue that offers world-class rafting and kayaking, as well as the Gunpowder Park and Cornmill Meadows for birdwatching and walking. The town centre itself maintains a traditional feel with its timber-framed buildings and a regular market that has been held since the medieval period. Additionally, the Epping Forest District Museum, located in a beautifully restored Tudor building on Sun Street, provides a detailed look at the social and cultural history of the local area.
