For this installation we headed out to Westerham, on the boarder of Kent and Surrey, to carry out a high-level security installation for a client in the TN16 area. Because the homeowner needed to secure high-value items and satisfy strict insurance requirements, we recommended the Burton Eurovault Aver LFS Grade 2 (Size 1). This is a serious piece of security equipment, boasting a Eurograde 2 insurance rating, which covers up to £17,500 in cash or a massive £175,000 in valuables. It’s the ideal choice for residents in the Home Counties who need top-tier protection without the safe taking up too much floor space.

For this Westerham safe installation, we positioned the unit discreetly under some existing shelving to keep it out of sight. To ensure it met its full security potential, an anchor bolt was inserted through the rear hole on the safe and into the wall behind the safe after drilling. It was then screwed down into the wooden floor through the hole on the bottom base of the safe. This Euro Grade 2 safe is built to withstand sophisticated attacks, and by anchoring it correctly, we ensure it stays exactly where it’s supposed to be. To make the safe even more user-friendly, the client also ordered an Automatic Magnetic Safe Light. This battery-powered version is a great little addition; it senses motion and lights up the interior as soon as the door opens, which is incredibly helpful for seeing into the back of the safe in darker corners like this one.

Once the installation was complete and we had tidied up the work area, we spent some time with the client to ensure they were comfortable with their new security system. We walked through how to operate the high-security digital keypad, set their custom code, and explained how to maintain the unit and how to change the batteries in the magnetic light. It’s always our priority to make sure our clients feel confident and secure before we leave. Westerham is a historic market town nestled in the Sevenoaks district of Kent, positioned within the TN16 postcode. It sits in a picturesque valley carved by the River Darent, right at the foot of the North Downs and within the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Located approximately 22 miles south of central London, the town serves as a charming gateway between the capital and the Garden of England. While Westerham does not have its own railway station—the "Westerham Flyer" branch line having closed in the 1960s—it remains highly accessible by road via the A25. Commuters typically utilize the nearby stations at Oxted or Sevenoaks, which offer frequent, fast services into London Victoria and London Bridge. Its proximity to junctions 5 and 6 of the M25 also makes it a strategic yet tranquil base for those traveling across the South East. The name Westerham translates from Old English as "the western homestead," and the town’s roots stretch back to a Saxon settlement mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086. By the 13th century, it had established itself as a thriving market town, a legacy that is still reflected in its broad, central green and the layout of its historic core. Westerham’s history is perhaps most defined by its connection to two of Britain’s most iconic figures. In the 18th century, it was the birthplace of General James Wolfe, the hero of the Battle of Quebec, whose childhood home still stands in the town. Fast forward to the 20th century, and the town became inextricably linked with Sir Winston Churchill, who purchased the nearby Chartwell estate in 1922. Churchill spent much of his life there, and the town’s identity was forever shaped by his presence, eventually leading to the installation of his statue on the Green, which he unveiled himself in 1965. Westerham is a premier destination for history enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. The town’s social and aesthetic heart is The Green, bordered by historic inns and independent boutiques, and famously flanked by statues of both Wolfe and Churchill. For a deep dive into local heritage, visitors can explore Quebec House, a striking red-brick gentry house that was Wolfe’s childhood home, now managed by the National Trust. Just a short drive south is Chartwell, Churchill's beloved family home, which remains one of the most visited National Trust properties in the country. For those who appreciate local produce, Squerryes Court offers a stunning 17th-century manor house experience alongside an award-winning vineyard and deli, while the Westerham Brewery provides a modern taste of the town's long-standing brewing tradition. Hikers and cyclists are also drawn to the area by the North Downs Way and the surrounding woodland of Toys Hill, which offers some of the most expansive panoramic views over the Weald of Kent.
