This safe installation was in Watford (WD19). Differing from most wardrobe, cupboard and room corner installations that we have done, in this instance we had to utilize a unique wall recess to place the safe. This specific model was the Burton Eurovault Aver LFS Grade 1 (Size 2) Digital Safe which is a standout in residential security, carrying a certified Eurograde 1 insurance rating to cover £10,000 in cash or £100,000 in valuables. A key advantage of this safe is its dual-purpose engineering; it provides 30 minutes of fire resistance for paper documents alongside its high-level theft protection.

The installation, shown in these photos, demonstrates how we repurposed an architectural alcove to house the unit. By nesting the safe within the wall, we created a streamlined look that saves valuable floor space while keeping the safe at a height that is ergonomic for the user. As you can see the result is a clean, integrated finish that makes the security hardware feel like a natural part of the room’s design.

To achieve the "bolt-down" status required by insurers, we executed a specialized rear-fixing method. Because the safe is positioned within a wall cavity, we used a high-strength expanding fixing bolt driven through the back of the safe and deep into the structural masonry which we drilled beforehand. This anchoring technique ensures that the safe is physically tied to the building's skeleton, providing a massive level of resistance against any attempt to pry or pull the unit from its position.

We concluded the visit by ensuring the homeowner was fully satisfied with how to use the safe and the high-security digital lock. This included a hands-on demonstration on how to program their custom access codes and how to change the keypad battery. The WD19 postcode primarily covers the residential and green-belt area of South Oxhey, Carpenders Park, and Oxhey Hall, situated on the southern outskirts of Watford in Hertfordshire. It occupies a strategic position on the border with Greater London, nestled between the town of Northwood to the south and the main commercial centre of Watford to the north. The area is exceptionally well-connected for rail travellers; Carpenders Park station sits on the London Overground line, providing direct and frequent services to both London Euston and Watford Junction. This makes it a popular residential enclave for those seeking a suburban lifestyle with rapid access to the capital’s rail network and the nearby M1 and M25 motorways. The history of the WD19 area is characterized by a transition from ancient manorial estates and woodland to a post-war residential hub. Historically, much of the land belonged to the Oxhey Place estate, which dates back to at least the 13th century. Following the Second World War, the landscape changed dramatically as part of the London County Council's "out-of-county" housing scheme. South Oxhey was developed in the late 1940s to provide modern housing for Londoners displaced by the Blitz, built upon the former grounds of the Oxhey Chapel and Manor. Despite this rapid development, the area has preserved significant pockets of its rural heritage. Oxhey Chapel, built in 1612, remains as a rare and beautiful example of early 17th-century brickwork, standing as a silent witness to the area's long-standing connection to the landed gentry of Hertfordshire. While predominantly residential, WD19 offers several unique attractions for visitors, particularly those interested in history and nature. Oxhey Chapel is a must-visit historical gem, noted for its original timber roof and fine Jacobean interior. For outdoor enthusiasts, Oxhey Woods is an expansive local nature reserve and ancient woodland that covers over 100 acres. It is famous for its spring displays of bluebells and a designated sculpture trail that makes it a popular spot for families and hikers. To the west, the area borders the Colne Valley Regional Park, offering access to canal-side walks and water-based activities. For a more modern experience, the nearby Oxhey Activity Park features world-class skating and cycling facilities, a cafe, and landscaped gardens. The area also serves as a quiet gateway to the more intensive touristic offerings of central Watford, such as the Atria shopping centre and the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London (The Making of Harry Potter), which is only a short drive away.
