Sussex Grade 1 (Size 2) Digital Safe Fitted in South West London
(case study 01597)
We installed a safe in a property in Lambeth (SW4) of a Sussex Grade 1 (Size 2) Digital Safe. This model is an excellent security choice for London homeowners, as it is officially certified with a Eurograde 1 insurance rating, providing coverage for up to £10,000 in cash or £100,000 in valuables. In addition to its high physical security, the Sussex range provides certified 30 minute fire protection for paper documents, offering a versatile solution for safeguarding both high-value jewellery and important documents.
The safe was positioned within a deep storage cupboard, providing a discreet location that keeps the unit out of the direct line of sight. As shown in the photos, the compact footprint of the Euro Grade One Size 2 model allows it to fit comfortably into restricted spaces without sacrificing internal storage capacity. To ensure the installation complied with strict insurance requirements, we utilized the safe’s dual anchoring points. We secured the unit by using a heavy duty screw down through the single base fixing hole into the floor and the single rear fixing hole had a strong expanding bolt that went into the solid wall at the back of the cupboard.
Once the safe was fixed to the fabric of the building (which is what the insurers require), we conducted a full handover with the client. This included a tutorial on the high-security digital keypad. We instructed the homeowner how to set their unique user codes and change the keypad battery if ever need be. The SW4 postcode district is cantered on the vibrant and affluent neighbourhood of Clapham, located within the London Borough of Lambeth in South West London. It occupies a prime position between Battersea to the west, Brixton to the east, and Balham to the south. The area is a major transport hub, particularly for commuters; it is served by three Northern Line stations—Clapham Common, Clapham North, and Clapham South—offering rapid access to the City and the West End. Additionally, Clapham High Street station provides London Overground services, while an extensive network of bus routes connects the district to Waterloo, Victoria, and beyond. Its proximity to the A3 makes it a key gateway for those traveling toward the South Coast. The name Clapham likely originates from the Old English "clopp-ham," meaning a settlement on a hill. For centuries, it was a quiet rural village until the 17th century, when the "Clapham Sect"—a group of influential social reformers including William Wilberforce—settled here. They campaigned vigorously from the Holy Trinity Church for the abolition of the slave trade. In the 1820s and 30s, the developer Thomas Cubitt transformed the area by creating "Clapham Park," an early example of speculative suburban development featuring broad, tree-lined streets and grand villas. The arrival of the railway in the mid-19th century further accelerated its growth, turning it into a favoured Victorian residential suburb. After significant damage during the Blitz, the area underwent post-war redevelopment, including the creation of the massive Clapham Park Estate, yet it has retained its reputation for high-quality period architecture and a strong sense of community. The focal point of the district is Clapham Common, one of London's largest and most historic open spaces, spanning over 220 acres. It features the largest Victorian bandstand in London, three ponds for fishing and model boating, and a wealth of sports facilities. For a more boutique experience, visitors head to Clapham Old Town and Abbeville Village, both of which offer a sophisticated mix of artisan bakeries, independent bookshops, and upscale gastropubs like The Bull’s Head. Food lovers congregate every Saturday at the Venn Street Market, a bustling community hub for local farmers and seasonal produce. Cultural highlights include Studio Voltaire, a leading independent arts organization housed in a former Victorian chapel, and the Clapham Picturehouse, a much-loved local cinema. The area is also famous for its nightlife, ranging from the historic Clapham Grand—a Victorian theatre-turned-nightclub—to the trendy wine bars lining the High Street.
